Gynecomastia can occur in men of various ages. Its development may be influenced by an excess of female sex hormones, obesity, pathological disorders of the body, such as testicular, thyroid, liver, or kidney dysfunction, tumours, the use of anabolic steroids or certain medications, or other factors. The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Incisions are made around the areola, and excess tissue is removed from the sides of the chest and around the areola. The incisions are then sutured. If the enlargement of the chest is due to fatty tissue, liposuction may also be performed. After the procedure, a surgical compression garment is applied to the chest. Patients are usually advised to remain in the hospital for the first 24 hours.
