During hair transplantation, healthy hair follicles are taken from a donor area, usually the back of the scalp, and implanted into areas affected by hair thinning or hair loss. At Northway Medical Centres, the procedure is performed using the FUE method, in which individual follicular units are extracted one by one without creating a long surgical incision or linear scar.

Before the procedure, a dermatologist assesses the pattern of hair loss, the condition of the scalp and donor area, the patient’s medical history and their expectations. The hairline and treatment areas are then carefully planned to achieve a natural-looking result.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. The extracted follicles are implanted according to the natural direction, angle and density of the patient’s hair growth. The duration of the procedure depends on the size of the treatment area and the number of follicles being transplanted, and may range from several hours to most of the day.

After the procedure, the patient receives detailed aftercare instructions. It is important to protect the transplanted area from friction, avoid scratching the scalp, wash the hair only as advised and refrain from strenuous physical activity during the initial recovery period. Follow-up appointments are arranged to assess healing and monitor progress.

Some of the transplanted hairs may shed during the first few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. New hair usually begins to grow after several months, while the final result develops gradually as the hair becomes stronger and denser. PRP treatment may also be recommended to support scalp health and the hair growth process.
