Laparoscopic myomectomy

Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus and may cause symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure, discomfort or fertility problems.

During laparoscopic myomectomy, the surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdomen and uses a laparoscope and specialised instruments to locate and remove the fibroids. The camera provides a detailed view of the pelvic organs, allowing the procedure to be carried out with precision.

Because the uterus is preserved, this procedure may be particularly suitable for women who wish to maintain their fertility or avoid removal of the uterus.

Compared with open surgery, the laparoscopic approach generally results in smaller scars, less postoperative discomfort and a quicker recovery.
