During eyelid surgery, incisions are made along natural creases. Excess muscle may be removed along with the skin, and fatty deposits around the eyes can be reduced. After the procedure, the skin is sutured, and the incision area is covered with a special adhesive strip. Local anaesthesia is most commonly used, although patients may also choose intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. Eyelid surgery patients typically spend 3–4 hours in the day surgery unit, during which cooling packs are applied to the eyelids. For the rest of the day, patients are advised to rest at home while continuing to cool the operated area. Sutures are removed after 5–6 days. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within 2 weeks. The postoperative scar is barely noticeable, and patients can return to normal daily activities.
